Julier Pass - The curvy mountain road
The Julier Pass which sits above Silvaplana, 7km to the west is a mountain pass in Switzerland, in the Albula Alps. It connects the Engadin valley with central Graubünden, the nearest inhabited localities on its approaches being Silvaplana and Bivio. From Chur through deep Alpine valleys the Julier Pass Route heads to St. Moritz. You can enjoy the attraction of Switzerland’s oldest town, Chur. And, before moving to Valbella there are plenty of spectacular and picturesque sights.
The Julier Pass Road was constructed in the 1820s. Actually, the road is the old Septimer Pass. The road is still easily travelable after moderate widening. In some parts, areas of the Julier Pass Road were rebuilt in 2009 to reduce the serpentine turns.  The Julier pass also marks the divide between water flowing to the North Sea and to the Black Sea.
