The biggest Carnival in Switzerland – Carnival of Basel
The Carnival of Basel is the prior identity of the City of Basel. It has been added to the UNESCO cultural heritage since 2017. It is rich in culturally speaking, very much creative and making energy to the local people and tourist who are rushing from different part of the world to watch this wonderful three-day event. It is also included to the Top Fifty Local Festivals in Europe.
The quality and wonderfulness are the reason for the success of the carnival. Hand-painted lanterns with thousands of costumed pipers and drummers create a flow of energy into you. Next carnival is held on 27 February to 1 March 2023. The festival has been celebrated since 1902 to say farewell to the cold of the winter and welcome in the spring.
Normally the festival begins from Monday after Ash Wednesday. The Carnival of Basel Starts on the Monday with ‘Morgenstreich’, followed by ‘Gugge Music’ concerts on Tuesday and finishing on Wednesday with the ‘Endstreich’.
