Grindelwald
Grindelwald is a famous mountain village in the Interlaken-Oberhasli district. It is exactly lies in the canton of Berne in Switzerland. The Grindelwald is embedded in green hollow which is refreshingly surrounded by a commanding mountain. Alpiglen, Burglauenen, Grund, Itramen, Mühlebach, Schwendi, Tschingelberg and Wargistal are the ancient settlements which belong to the village.
Historically, Since the end of the 18th century, Grindelwald attracted its first guests primarily the English. Then, from 19th century, the mountain got famous and local mountain guides climbed the peaks of the region with English tourists. A castle on the Burgbühl hill above the village was built during the High Middle Ages.
The first cableway in the Alps was built here in 1908 on the Wetterhorn.The Jungfraubahn, a mountain railway up the Jungfrau mountain, is listed as a Swiss heritage site of national significance. A rich spectrum of activities and recreational opportunities in the midst of unspoilt nature is waiting to be discovered.
Arrival in Grindelwald
- By train
Via Bern or Lucerne to Interlaken-Ost. Change to the Bernese Oberland Railway to Grindelwald. - By car
Via Bern or Lucerne to Interlaken. Or from the south via the Grimsel Pass (only in summer) or via the Simplon Pass and Lötschberg car train to Interlaken. Then follow the signs to Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen.
Highlights
- First cliff Walk by Tissot
They circle over alpine meadows, forest and a high waterfall. On the observation deck by the terrace of the mountain restaurant, you can guess what it must feel like – thrills included: the bridge juts 45 meters out into nowhere.
- Jungfrau Eiger walk
If you embark on an easy walk, you can marvel at it up close on the Jungfrau Eiger Walk. The two and a half kilometer long, well-developed path from the Eigergletscher station to the Kleine Scheidegg (or vice versa) is also easily manageable for inexperienced hikers.Â

- Eiger Trail

The route from the Eiger Trail has been changed due to construction work for the V-Bahn. Please pay attention to the markings on site and this map with the changed route . The hiking time is extended by around 20 minutes.
- Marmot Nature Trail and Barbecue area
When you feel tired and hungry, he marmot banks and the Oberläger barbecue area come in handy. And maybe, if you no longer actively look for it, suddenly a marmot will appear after all!
- Bike Tour to Grindelwald
A reasonable basic level of fitness is enough to cope with the two short climbs. The rest of the work is done by the railway staff – they load the bike onto the gondola – and the force of gravity. you can climb around 1,100 meters in a maximum of one and a half hours.
