Zurich Zoo
There are more than 340 species of animals in the Zürichberg zoo. About 4,000 animals serve as ambassadors for their own kind in the wild. A nature conservation Centre involved in international breeding programs and resettlement projects.
The almost 90-year-old Zurich Zoo located in a pictures que location on the Zürichberg, in the city’s Fluntern quarter. The zoo is elevated over Zurich’s rooftops, covered by greenery, and can still be reached quickly and conveniently accessed from the city Centre.
In the middle of the 20th century, the zoo was one of the first scientifically managed zoological gardens under the direction of zoo director Heini Hediger, who pioneered knowledge panel sand mixed animal holding. To this day, the Zurich Zoo is deeply engaged in protection of biodiversity and in multinational breeding programs. There is oldest lady called Nigrita, a Galapagos giant turtle. She is over 70 years old and has been living at the zoo since 1946.
The following attractions await visitors at Zurich Zoo
1. Lewa Savannah – In what is the zoo’s largest enclosure, white rhinos, giraffes, and Grevy’s zebras live peacefully side by side.
2. Masoala Rainforest – Here live geckos, turtles, snakes, parrots, and many other rainforest animals.
3. Australian enclosure – Koalas, kangaroos, perenties, and emus have an enclosure of their own.
4. Kaeng Krachan Elephant Park – Eight Asian elephants live in this beautiful enclosure.
5. Aquarium – 700 fish and around 70 aquatic species live in eight large basins, each of which form an individual habitat. The penguin enclosure isalso part of the aquarium.
6. Mongolian Steppe – This area is home to Bactrian camels, domesticated yaks, and cashmere goats.
7. Pantanal – Capybaras, squirrel monkeys, giant anteaters, and other mammalsand birds love the South American climate at this exhibit.
8. Zoolino – Here pygmy goats, pigs, and other domestic and farm animalsenjoy being fed and stroked.
