Bahnhofstrasse - Extraordinary Christmas Market
Christmas Celebration, Festivities and Markets, Musicals – Fairs and Congresses – Sports and Christmas shows: Zurich is absolutely beautiful at Christmas time. The entire town is bathed in warm light, the scent of cinnamon and mulled wine in the background, and the songs of Christmas ring out everywhere. Opening Sundays and shopping nights are an opportunity to splash out on gifts. And, what’s more, Zurich’s hoteliers are holding fantastic New Year’s Eve parties.
Specialties in Bahnhofstrasse Christmas Celebration
Zurich ‘s popular Christmas markets are covered in a cinnamon fragrance and festively decorated. At the oldest Christmas market in Niederdorf in Zurich or at the famous Christkindlimarkt in the central railway station, locals and tourists come together to search the booths for rarities. The 16-metre-high Christmas tree, adorned with about 7,000 Swarovski crystals, is an especially glittering attraction of the Christkindlimarkt in the railway plaza. And take a stroll along the Bahnhofstrasse and, sooner or later, walk past the unique “Singing Christmas Tree.”
The numerous choirs from the area give the best of their Christmas range throughout the evening on a house-high, steep scaffold with a fir tree cladding. You’ll get the feeling that you’re visiting Santa Claus at the “Wienachtsdorf” on the Sechseläutenplatz, with the opera house in the view. Countless enchanting market booths, an ice rink and many other attractions will make young and old visitors dream.
