Bürkliplatz – Lakeside Pleasure and Leisure
Bürkliplatz was built after the bulwarks of the old town fortification had been broken down. City engineer Arnold Bürkli was responsible for the construction of the lakeside park area from 1882 to 1887. Land was paved around the shores of the lake, and a continuous lakeside promenade was built of the Quaibrücke (lakeside bridge) of boulevards, meadows and parks. Today, Bürkliplatz is the dock and the starting point for tours of Lake Zurich. The platform is also the location for a large range of activities. The “Bürklimäärt” is not only a boat dock, but also a marketplace, art area and event site with a view across Lake Zurich to the Alps. It is opened to the public all day.
