Piazza Grande Locarno - With the typical arcades

The Piazza Grande is one of the largest and most prominent squares in Switzerland, with its traditional arcades. Piazza Grande is exciting meeting spot of Locarno. It is the meeting place as well as the center of the city and the Main commercial and cultural events take place in this meeting place as well as heart of town, such as the weekly Thursday market, the July Moon & Stars concerts and the August Film Festival evening projections.

Market in Piazza Grande

Every Thursday from 9.00 to 17.00 (every 15 days in winter) the Piazza Grande is filled with stalls selling all kinds of products. What is very unique and characteristic are the stalls that sell handmade local items: garments, wool items, ceramics and wooden artifacts. Also on the market can be found Ticinian gastronomy, including fresh cheese from our farmers, chickens, fruit and vegetables. You can also find stalls selling second hand items, such as disks, books, music tapes and clothes.
