La Passerelle De L`utopie
Neuchâtel Lake (Neuenburgersee in German) is the largest lake entirely located in Swiss territory, as it borders 4 cantons: Neuchâtel, Vaud, Friborg and Bern. The most variable lake in Switzerland, its color is stated to evolve from midnight blue to sky blue to emerald.
It is situated on the border of French-German language and part of the country with three lakes. The maximum width is 8.2 km and has 38km long, 152 km deep. A temporary exhibition entitled “11 sites, 1 route for utopian architectures” was organized in 1991 by the city of Neuchâtel.
Winterthur architects Franck and Regula Meyer built a “utopian bridge” on this occasion which became a popular objective for passers-by and lovers, and from temporary to permanent.
Impressive overboard cantilever stretched over the lake, provides a different panorama of the sea and port, provides an open sea feel. The footbridge is designed as a large seesaw with a single support in the middle. The movement of the bridge is suspended by two counterweights in a vacuum.
