Reaches its arms out into ItalyÂ
The lake Lugano is surrounded by mountains and has a number of different branches: Monte Generoso is the highest mountain on Lake Lugano, at about 1700 m. A rack railway takes you to the top of the mountain from Capolago’s lakeside resort, with its panoramic view.
Visitors surely enjoy the diversity of this area on the boat: Morcote, with its grand mansions and the church of Santa Maria Del Sasso, Renaissance building with a Late-Romanesque bell-tower, or little fishing village Gandria.
The numerous parks around the lake attract people to hike. Take for example the Scherrer Park in Morco, in which sculpture and architecture are combined with cedar trees, pine tree, country trees, eucalyptus trees, azalea, palm trees, bamboo, and so on from countless different countries and eras. Visitors can enjoy watching the magnolias and camellias in full bloom in the parks.
