Paradeplatz
The intersection between Zurich’ lake, old town and Bahnhofstrasse is known throughout the world as a financial center.
Paradeplatz – the heart of the Bahnhofstrasse and the main nodal point of the Zurich tram network and the stop is served by lines 2, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 13 and 17. In the 17th century, it was called “Säumärt” (pig market) due to the livestock market that took place there on a regular basis. The name was changed to “Neumarkt” (New Market) in the early 19th century due to an upsurge in business – then again changed to “Paradeplatz” 50 years later.
Paradeplatz has built a name for itself as the biggest financial exchange location and most expensive pieces of real state in Switzerland since the time when major Swiss banks set up their main offices there and being the location of the headquarters of both UBS and Credit Suisse. The old town of Zurich, Lake Zurich and Bahnhofstrasse can be accessed from the Paradeplatz. There is also a branch of the confectionery company Sprüngli, where you can purchase the famous “Luxemburgerli.”
