Grosse Scheidegg

The Grosse Scheidegg is a mountain pass with unique views of glaciers in the Bernese Alps of Switzerland, The pass crosses the col between the Schwarzhorn and the Wetterhorn mountains at an elevation of 1,962 m (6,437 ft).  Moreover, it is car-free; the only vehicles allowed are the famous yellow Post-Buses.

On the other side the rugged Engelhörner, on one side the impressive view of the Eiger seen from this particular perspective with the world-famous glacier village of Grindelwald, and the wildly romantic Rosenlauital.

Prior to the coming of the railways and the introduction of tourism to the area, the Grosse Scheidegg provided access for local livestock and dairy farmers to the important export route to Italy over the Grimsel Pass.

Tip from the Grand Tours Project:
At the Grosse Scheidegg pass, climb further onto the ridge above. The views of the two flanks are breathtaking and highly photogenic.
