Monte Bre

Monte Brè  is a small mountain east of Lugano on the flank of Monte Boglia  with a view of the bay of Lugano and the Pennine Alps and the Bernese Alps. It is considered one of the sunniest points in Switzerland. Funicular railways run in the scenic mountain above the lake basin and the vibrant town from the edge of Lugano to Monte Brè.

This area is most suitable for outdoor activities where you can cook on grill, strolling with family and more challenging mountain excursions. This Switzerland’s sunniest peak is home to the uncommon and safe Christmas rose which is famous in Southern Europe.

Two restaurants with a sun terrace will welcome you at the “summit”. The path which descents down to Lugano or the lake through village of Brè, is quite steep, as are the nature and archaeological path to Gandria. The charming little village of Brè with its grottos has managed to preserve its original country settlement character by numerous Art works.

You can explore the various points of interest in Monte Brè with pedal power by using Mountain bike which can be hired at the summit near the cable car station.
