The gateway to central Switzerland
Lucerne is a city with stunning mountainous views which is located in Lake Lucerne. This most charming city is a destination for many travel groups on their journey through central Switzerland.
The city’s main sights: Medieval Chapel Bridge with gable paintings, considered to be one of the oldest, covered wooden bridges in Europe. Museggmauer is another landmark of the town which has been preserved in its original, well-fortified state.
Lucerne is a town of squares and churches. The Jesuit church, since 17th century, is considered the first sacral baroque building in Switzerland, and the twin towers of the Hofkirche form an integral part of the town. Switzerland’s best known monuments is the figure of a dying lion which was hewn from the face of rock in remembrance of the heroic death of Swiss guards killed during an attack on the Tuileries in 1792.
One of the town’s architectural highlights is the futuristic Culture and Convention Centre (KKL), designed by leading French architect Jean Nouvel. This icon of Lucerne is a venue of wide range of cultural events. Lucerne is the perfect base for many excursions to central Switzerland’s highlights.
We recommend a relaxing boat ride along beautiful Lucerne Lake and long stroll along the beautiful streets with nice souvenir shopping.
