Thun: City of Lake and history
Thun is a city in the district of Thun of the canton of Bern, Switzerland. The city lies where the Aare flows out of Lake Thun in southeast of Bern. the city is the gateway to the Bernese Oberland. The River Aare, first flows from Lake Thun then to Bern. The river provides a particular shape to the cityscape.
The region was an important part of the empire of the Holy Roman in 1033. During the early Bronze Age, the Thun region was loaded with settlements along the lake shore. The city’s most popular landmark is the great Thun Castle and its towers. They were built between 1180 and 1190. The towers stand majestically over the Old Town. A historical museum lies in the tower rooms, showcasing finds from the past 800 years relating to the region and its history, as well as a special exhibition which changes each year.
