City of Montreux
Montreux, an authentic little piece of paradise is a town and a Swiss town on the shoreline of Lake Geneva at the foot of the Alps. Montreux’ main draws include peaceful walks along a lakeshore blessed with 19th-century hotels, a mild microclimate, a hilltop Old Town, one of the world’s premier jazz festivals, Friday-morning lakeside markets and a fabulous 13th-century fortress.
The 19th century’s writers, artists and musicians (Lord Byron and the Shelleys among them) flocked to magical Montreux, what was then a pleasing lakeside resort. Clinging to the steep slopes, the Old Town of Montreux seems lost on the heights – yet it takes no more than ten minutes to walk from the lakeside to this picturesque area. And it’s well worth it for the view, especially from the St-Vincent Temple.
The arrival of the first snowflakes signals the beginning of Alpine fun, on skis, snowshoes or simply on foot. For less sporty visitors, Chaplin’s World and Chillon Castle are the top museum choices. This is a wild and wonderful natural landscape just a few steps from the Old Town of Montreux. The river “La Baye de Montreux” flows in this gorge from the foot of the Rochers-de-Naye into Lake Geneva.
Chaplin’s World by Grevin
A unique blend of amazement, stories, and emotions awaits visitors to the Manoir de Ban estate, where the artist spent the last 25 years of his life.
Chaplin’s World by Grévin opened in April 2016 at the former Chaplin family home, the Manoir de Ban, in Corsier-sur-Vevey, Switzerland. With 1850 m2 of thematic exhibits, the Manoir de Ban and its Hollywood-style studio showcase the humor and emotion that were so dear to Charlie Chaplin and which conquered the entire planet.
