CERN Headquarters
The Globe of Science and Innovation is a visitor center, designed to inform visitors about the significant research being carried out at CERN. Two permanent exhibitions, guided tours and a cycle route engage you in the discovery of particle physics. The wooden structure, which is 27 metres (89 ft) high and 40 metres (130 ft) in diameter, is a symbol of planet earth and was originally built for Expo.02 in Neuchâtel, Switzerland.
The purpose of the Foundation is to support and promote the mission of CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, and disseminate its benefits to the wider public. Since 2017, the Foundation Board has decided to focus its efforts on projects targeting Youth & Education. The Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant proposals.
Guided tours available by reservation only.
Our main objectives are to:
- Promote public understanding of science and the various ways it affects our daily life;
- Encourage and support young people’s interest in the subjects of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, with an emphasis on physics and engineering (STEM);
- Improve people’s lives by means of innovative technologies;
- Build capacity in developing countries by providing people with scientific knowledge and tools; and
- Foster creative synergies between science and culture, stimulating inspiration and enriching the cultural landscape.
Venue
27 metres high and 40 metres in diameter, it’s about the same size as the dome of St Peter’s in Rome! A unique visual landmark by day and by night, the Globe of Science and Innovation is a symbol of planet Earth. It is CERN’s new outreach tool for its work in the fields of science, particle physics, cutting-edge technology and how it can be applied in everyday life. CERN Is famous spot in Switzerland tourism.
