One of the earliest national parks in Europe - Swiss National Park
The Swiss National Park is the largest natural park in Switzerland. It is located in Engadin/Münstertal in the Western Rhaetian Alps of eastern Switzerland. The elevation of the park is between 1400 and 3173 meter above sea level. The largest protected area of the country was the first national park in the Alps and Central Europe, it is well-known for its abundance of Alpine animals and Alpine plants as it is an untouched pristine landscape by human. Major attractions of the national park are Unequaled alpine scenery, re-introduced bearded vulture, golden eagle, capricorn, chamois, stag, marmots, alpine forests, and flowers. It contains 1/3 alpine forest, 1/3 alpine meadows and 1/3 rock.
The park is very much secured: it’s not allowed to: leave marked paths, disturb the flora and fauna, take home anything found in the area. As there are no bikes, no tents and no fires or stoves allowed in the park, none can spend overnight in the park. Dogs are not allowed, even on a leash. Due to these strict rules, the Park is the only park in the Alps which has been categorized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as a strict nature reserve (the highest protection level).
